Climate change
Just a couple of days ago one of my friends told me about this documentary that Leonardo DiCaprio put together called Before the Flood. I haven't had time to watch it yet but I plan to when I get time. It talks about global warming and how the climate is changing so drastically. I don't know too much about the issue but I am very interested and plan on looking more into it. While I was going through my news stories this morning I came across an article that was talking about the same issue and giving lots of facts so I thought I would blog about it! According to the CNN article that I read, since the beginning of October for the first time we are seeing both the Arctic and Antarctic sea ice running at record low levels for this time of year. The decline of sea ice has been a key indicator that climate change in happening. Each of the 16 months leading up to September 2016 broke the global average high temperature record. September became the first month not to break a monthly all time high in nearly a year and a half. Also, in July 2016 the oceans had risen 84.8 millimeters. This is a rate of 3.4 millimeters a year. It might not seem like a lot of change but it is already effecting many coastal cities, like Miami which deals with lots of flooding. I know there are probably a lot of things I could do differently to make at least a small impact and I plan on researching and finding out more about what I can do. I hope some of you will take interest too!

I am interested in seeing this documentary as well!
ReplyDeleteI was aware that there has been an increase in the ocean rise due to the climate change, but unsure of what I could do to make a huge difference. I like how you said just taking an interest and researching could be a small impact we could all make on this large problem.
I was reading in the Austin American Statesman today that the Obama administration is blocking new oil and gas drilling in the Artic. This drilling would the harm animals that live there and may increase global warming. At least some progress is being made in environmental matters.
