fashion
After class I couldn't stop thinking about the "new fashion" that vogue is suggesting. I think it is wrong to decide if a body part is in style or not. There are some parts of your body that you just can't help the size of. It's not fair to limit what girls can wear because the size of their chest. I personally really like the high neckline look and have tons of shirts that are like that but I don't like it because it completely covers my boobs or because thats what vogue says I should like. Its just a personal style preference. On the other hand, I also have a lot of shirts and dresses that probably show a little too much boob and I am not going to let a fashion magazine body shame me into not wanting to wear those clothes. If you feel good you look good and thats what matters! You should be happy with yourself no matter what neckline you're wearing!

As a fashion major, I completely agree! It is really insane to say that a body part is in or out of style but it happens all the time. Just like how a certain body type is in or not and what that is has changed through the years but it still doesn't make it right. It keeps happening because everyone has allowed for that to be the norm. If people stop buying into the trash magazines and the idea that certain things are prettier than others then it could possibly change.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you because I'm the opposite I have small boobs, and I wear high necklines all the time and most of my dresses are the same way. Its just something I prefer. But I also have those lower necklines. I just think everyone should wear whatever they want because everyone is so different. No one feels the same about everything thats out there, so clothing isn't any different.
ReplyDeleteThe concept of trends is so weird to me. The idea that we look to a specific source for what we like is weird. I think that's why I love street style so much because it's a good outlet for people to recognize that there aren't any rules to what you wear or how you wear it. The notion that these magazines have the power to make or break someone's vision of a piece of clothing is ridiculous. As a fashion merchandising major, I get annoyed at constantly hearing about planned obsolescence and the monotony of trend popularity and demise. Of course, I try to follow trends and usually that's what dictates the assortment is stores, but as previously stated but others in this class, everyone has a different body. A dress that might not illicit cleavage on one individual, might give another person a lot of cleavage. It's weird. And not a cute, quirky Zooey Deschanel weird. Just weird.
