Montreal, Cananda recently passed a policy that states all owners of pitbulls must be permitted by the end of the year. Pitbulls that are not permitted will be euthanized. This policy goes into effect following the tragic death of a woman who was mauled by the breed earlier this year. While I understand the decision from officials, I don't necessarily agree with it. Euthanasia is very extreme. Why does this policy have to go in this direction? Why can't it be more about better training tactics for dogs with aggressive temperaments? The policy calls for additional parameters like sterilization for this breed, adopting restrictions, and mandatory muzzles while in public. I think precautions should absolutely be taken to prevent horrific events such as this one, but I'm not convinced that euthanasia is the best option.

What do y'all think? Is there another side to this that I'm neglecting?
I personally do not believe that Pit-bulls are aggressive by nature. I think it is the owner who raises them to be aggressive so they grow up thinking that is how they should be. I have many friends who own pit-bulls and they are the sweetest dogs I have ever met! I wish there were more restrictions on who can adopt these breeds because I feel that this could prevent these innocent dogs from learning such horrible behaviors from their owners. It is so sad to think of all the dogs that will be euthanized just because of their breed.
