For those of you that walked through the quad when this protest was happening, you probably felt confusion or empathy. I truly hope that none of you felt like this individual who decided to call these peaceful protestors a disgusting and deplorable name. It's ridiculous that there are still people in 2016 that use this word to address people that they view as beneath them or subhuman ,but here we are.
I'm going to share a story with you guys.
It was my junior year of college and I had just gotten out of my weekly bible study. As I sat at the bus stop waiting for the tram, I didn't see anyone else except for a few people milling around on the sidewalks down the street from campus. Suddenly, I saw a white pickup truck headed up the hill on the opposite side of the street. I didn't think anything of it until I heard the people in the truck chanting, "N*****, N*****, N*****!", in my direction. I didn't fully process what happened until I caught a glimpse of the white males in the flatbed of the truck, looking like they had just accomplished something.

It's because of the events of the past couple of years and months that there are people protesting. No one should call the police and fear that they will be shot for looking like a "big, bad dude." No one should be humiliated based on their skin color.
Finally, no one should be told to leave their school for standing up for the injustices that are plaguing this country and world.
I want to stop talking about race. I practically wanted to crawl out of my skin when K.Stone brought up Black Lives Matter but as long as these things keep happening, I will speak up for those who can't.
