Before taking this class I made myself blissfully unaware of everything going on in our world. I kept it this way simply because I didn't want to know. I wouldn't watch the news, I wouldn't read articles that would pop up on my social media account, and I certainly would not choose to listen to individuals speak about terrorist attacks and racial slurs over the radio. However, in just these two short weeks, I have read several stories on the app I downloaded and am not only researching because I have to, but because I am very interested in what is going on around me...as I should have been this entire time. I look forward to gaining more knowledge this semester and it is always a pleasure to have our professor pull us out of our "typical" learning environment.
I did the same thing when it comes to the news. I did this for many reasons, the main one being is that I did not want to see all of the bad things that are going on in the world. However I do agree with you that this class has made me more interested in being educated on what is really going on.
ReplyDeleteI was the exact same way. I just did not want to know what was going on around me. The only articles I would read online would be the ones that would be on my facebook timeline over and over again, but that were about people I knew from home, I was unaware about any attacks, or the election going on, I just knew the basics things what people would say. This class has made me want to be aware what is going on around me.
ReplyDeleteI also am extremely guilty of not staying aware of things around me and it is mainly because I felt better not knowing. For the most part I feel as if there is nothing I can do to really change anything or help certain issues in the world and because of that I would just ignore everything. After being in this class just a couple of weeks I have already changed my views a little bit and the issues we have discussed have helped me want to make a difference. If everyone thought along the same lines as I and figured there was nothing they could do to change things anyway then nothing would ever get better. Every voice really does matter and my eyes are being opened to that.
