"Can I live?" - Kim K (and me)
First, I'll say that I do believe the single family dwelling law San Marcos uses does have method to it's madness. I understand residents of San Marcos trying to keep the students out of their family neighborhoods. That being said, I'm a home-owner and college student in San Marcos and this has been an issue for me when it comes to renters. I own a 3 bedroom house that I live in personally. I also rent out the spare ROOMS. The issue here is I have ROOMS available, but can only rent one of them due to this law. I just want to live with my best friends and drink wine in my backyard. I do not want to trash the neighborhood. I take care of my lawn. I grow squash in my garden. I am 25 years old. I'm not going to throw house parties. I get annoyed when my neighbors back porch light is on after midnight. I am not a hazard to this neighborhood. I'm just a college student that happens to not share a last name with anyone I want to live with. That's why I get frustrated in the situation. I cannot have the amount of renters living in MY home that I own because I'm not married and simply not sharing a last name with the man I live with.
