Petition to Keep Uninformed People From Talking

I was on Twitter last night and saw the news coming in about the Chelsea explosion. At the time, the reports were early and no one really knew what was happening. This morning, I checked the ChelseaNYC tag to see what new information about the event had surfaced. However, I didn’t see any valuable information other than the injury count. Most of the tweets and articles were about Trump and Hillary. Each side was making fun of the other’s candidate. While this was Twitter and I shouldn’t expect educated, factual statements, it did get me thinking about the election in general. These two candidates in particular spark a lot of heated debate. I’ve seen a lot of name-calling and jabs about unnecessary physical appearance on both sides. It’s interesting to me when I hear someone ask another person why they don’t like a specific candidate and their response is something along the lines of he or she is an idiot. That’s it. No facts to back it up; just the name-calling. It’s interesting. I’m not totally without fault. I’ve done it several times. I don’t label myself politically savvy and I’ve been guilty of purely listening to those around me for opinions. If this class has taught me anything, it’s that not only should we be more aware of what’s happening around us, but also that it’s imperative to figure out what our political beliefs are so we can back up our political opinions and make informed choices.

  1. I couldn't agree with you more. I am guilty of basing my opinions of who I am going to vote for solely off my parents or grandparents opinions of who they are going to vote for in the past.. This class is opening my views along with other classes of how important it is to stay informed and form your own opinions and thoughts, because they are not always the same as your loved ones. I've had to learn that the hard way but it is true and it is not fair to yourself to limit your views based on someone else's because once you actually look into things you can think totally along different terms!
